INTERIOR MINISTRY TO COOPERATE WITH THE ROMANIAN

Romanian Interior Minister Ioan Rus proposed that the Bulgarian and Romanian Interior Ministries cooperate and set up unified border teams to avoid double checks on the Bulgarian and on the Romanian border. That was announced at a news conference after a working meeting between the interior ministers of the two countries. The meeting took place took place in the Evksinograd residence near Varna. The two ministers shared the view that the 1999 agreement on cooperation needs to be updated. The Bulgarian and Romanian interior ministers discussed border control, trans-border crimes and combat against them, and exchange of information. The two officials also talked about the fight against drugs trafficking, corruption, contraband trade and terrorism in light of the September 11 events.
