Tens of thousands of people fled the US Atlantic coast as the government heightened its Hurricane Isabel alert. The speed of the wind reaches 170 kilometers (105 miles) per hour and is expected hit on Thursday and sweep up the East Coast. Tens of thousands of people from coastal zones were ordered to leave as state of emergency was declared in North Carolina, Maryland and Virginia states. Washington is also expected to be affected by the hurricane and precautions were ordered there as well.
