[Announcer] The National Executive Council of the Union of Democratic Forces [SDS] has discussed the SDS`s stance on the US and UK air strikes against Afghanistan. The SDS stance was expressed by Nadezhda Mikhaylova, chairperson of the United Democratic Forces [ODS] parliamentary floor group, before she headed for the presidency, where she was to take part in a meeting of the Consultative Council on National Security. Daniela Kusovska reports:
[Kusovska] Nadezhda Mikhaylova stressed that according to the ODS, as well as adopting declarations, Bulgaria could and must also contribute to the struggle against international terrorism by real action. In this context she announced several specific measures proposed by the SDS: blocking the channels for trade in narcotics and other smuggled goods; adopting strict restrictions on the arms trade, while meticulously observing all recommendations of the UN Security Council and the Euro-Atlantic community; activating all possible measures against money-laundering on the territory of Bulgaria; curbing the activity of all foreign organizations connected in any way with international terrorist actions; strengthening border controls, especially the movement of people; enhancing guarantees for people`s security by adopting additional measures to protect the cities and the important economic facilities; and finally, adopting common measures against physical and judicial entities connected with international terrorism.
Mikhaylova also said that the ODS was prepared to propose the relevant bill for each of those measures, but this must be coordinated with the other parties in the National Assembly.
