ITALIAN BRIGADE STARTED MILITARY EXERCISE IN BG

Italy`s Pinerolo Mechanized Brigade began an exercise at the Koren Military Training Ground near Haskovo on October 6. `A total of 678 soldiers, 50 commissioned officers and 63 non-commissioned officers will hold daytime and nighttime drills in simulated combat situations, including invocation of Article V of the Washington Treaty,` Brigadier General Franco Giannini told a news conference at the Koren Military Training Ground.The exercise will be concluded on October 24 with combat firing practice involving 60 Bulgarian servicemen of the army bases in Karlovo and Kazanluk.`The conduct of the exercise will cost nearly DEM12 M,` General Giannini said. This amount includes the rent for the training ground which Italy is paying Bulgaria.Sports competitions, concerts of an Italian and a Bulgarian brass band, and an exhibition of weapons will take place on a Day of Italy, co-organized on October 20 by the brigade command personnel and the local government in Haskovo.
