Five couples of presidential and vice-presidential candidates will probably run at the Bulgarian presidential elections that will take place on 11 November. The deadline for submiting documents to the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) was iOctober 6. Three couples submitted their documents on the last possible day. The CEC allowed them grace until Monday to make up for the irregularities in their documents. The certain candidates for the time being are incumbent President Petur Stoyanov, who is running as an independent backed by the opposition United Democratic Forces and the ruling Simeon II National Movement. Stoyanov`s runs with judge Nely Kutskova. Coalition for Bulgaria has nominated Bulgarian Socialist Party leader Georgi Purvanov for president and General Anguel Marin for vice-president. Former Interior Minister Bogomil Bonev is standing as candidate of his own Civic Party for Bulgaria, established last year. George Ganchev, nominated by the George Ganchev Block, and Petur Beron, supported by the Bulgaria Union, will also run. Both were unsuccessful at the previous presidential elections in October 1996. Surprisingly, nomination papers for former Prime Minister Reneta Indzhova were filed on October 6 by the Democratic Alliance, with diplomat Krustyu Ilov as Vice President candidate. Two little-known parties also applied for registration of their candidates.
