Bulgaria may need to import some 100,000 tons of wheat from the US, Boyko Boev, Bulgaria's Deputy Agriculture Minister said Tuesday.

Talks on the deal started in May and it will most likely be sealed by the end of August, Boev said. He explained that the move aims to secure a stable price for Bulgaria-made bread. Authorities also took a series of steps to restrict the exports of Bulgarian, the deputy added.

The news came as bread prices continue to climb in many Bulgarian cities.
