Bulgaria and the United Kingdom has jointly tabled a draft resolution at the UN Security Council calling for an immediate end to sanctions on Libya imposed because of the 1988 Lockerbie bombing.
The new resolution would remove diplomatic and economic sanctions that have been imposed for more than a decade.
The document follows the move Libya made several days ago in accepting the responsibility for the bombing of Pan Am flight 103. Libya also committed to pay compensation to families of the 270 victims.
The Security Council will start debates over the resolution at a closed session on Wednesday. A vote is expected to be held soon afterwards.
France, one of the five permanent members of the Security Council with a right to veto, might block the move as it seeks compensation deal with Libya for the families of victims of the 1989 UTA 772 flight bombing.
Emyr Jones Parry, the British ambassador to the UN, said he wished for an early vote.
"We believe we've reached our solution, but of course it's for every country to decide between now and that vote how we should actually react on the day", he said, cited by BBC.
