The killing of Philip Naydenov - Fatik is the next stage of the gangster war that Bulgaria's Cabinet cannot or is not willing to cope with, Nikolay Mladenov, speaker of right-wing opposition Union of Democratic Forces (UDF), said Tuesday.

Earlier in the day, Fatik was shoot at a bustling Sofia crossing by unidentified attackers. Bulgarian media claims that Fatik was involved in drugs and arms traffic even before the fall of communism.

Mladenov attacked Bulgaria's Interior Minister Georgi Petkanov for demonstrating "inability to cope" with the crime in the country.
