MILES INFORMED BG OFFICIALS FOR BIN LADEN

US Ambassador Richard Miles shared information on the terrorist attacks in the United States with the Foreign Minister Solomon Passy, his deputy Ivan Petkov, Deputy Interior Minister Boiko Kotsev, the directors of the National Intelligence Service and the National Security Service, as well as Foreign and Defense Ministry staff. Miles also briefed the Bulgarian officials on the involvement of foreign terrorist organizations in them. The briefing was held at the US Ambassador`s request on October 4. The ambassador emphasized that Bulgaria is one of the few friendly countries, which are not NATO members. The information, released to the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry, presented points conclusively to the role of Bin Laden and Al-Qaida, supported and protected by the Taliban regime in Afghanistan, in the 11 September attacks. `The US appreciates greatly Bulgaria`s support and cooperation, including the prompt action of the Bulgarian Parliament and the Government in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, as well as in the exchange of intelligence information,` . US Ambassador Miles said and thanked the Bulgarian government for guaranteeing the security of US buildings and offices.
