Bulgarian ship Dobrudzha that was detained by French coastal security Wednesday and accosted at the port of Brest is expected to sail off Friday, officials repored. The owner of the vessel -- Navigation Marine Bulgare (NMB) -- paid the bail of EUR 300,000 that France had set for the ship.
The ship was detained on suspicion that it released ballast thus polluting the waters of the Gulf of Gascogne. French authorities say that Dobrudzha polluted a spot as long as 7km and 700m wide.
The analysis of the samples taken from Dobrudzha's holds is complete and the conclusion was sent to the deputy prosecutor of Brest, Bulgaria's Ambassador to France Marin Raychev said.
French newspaper Le Figaro quoting a source from the Prosecutor's Office published a version of the event that lead to the pollution of Gulf of Gascogne. According to the article, Dobrudzha has entered a remnant from the Prestige tanker spill and released its ballast waters there to conceal the offense.
Officials from Bulgaria's Transport Ministry claimed Thursday that there was no proof of a damage caused by the Bulgarian ship. NMB Director Geno Genov categorically denied the allegations and said he had dispatched an envoy to Brest to study the case.
