`A project of the Bulgarian government for EUR 8 M, financed by the Phare Programme will be launched next week,` Hermann Hagspiel, adviser at the Delegation of the European Commission said. The main purpose of the project is to raise the quality of small and medium-sized enterprises by receiving a European certificate. `The European Commission provides EUR 5 M, while the government will co-finance the rest,` Hagspiel said. This project will be followed by another one, which will be financed with EUR 9 M by the European Commission. It is expected to be launched in early 2002 and will be for consultancy services to Bulgarian companies. A similar governmental project for consultancy to newly privatised enterprises was launched in April 2000. It was worth EUR 3 M, provided by the European Commission and lasted 18 months.
