USAID DISCUSSED PRIORITIES WITH FINANCE MINISTER

`Local self-government and the financial decentralization of municipal budgets are USAID`s most important projects in Bulgaria,` the Agency`s director for Bulgaria Debra McFarland said after a meeting with Finance Minister Milen Velchev. At the meeting, the USAID representatives familiarized Velchev with the program of the agency and its main projects in Bulgaria. `Velchev outlined the main priorities of the Government to which USAID may assist,` McFarland said. `The USAID mission in Sofia is in charge of coordinating and controlling the disbursement of US aid for Bulgaria,` the Finance Ministry said. USAID has projects for USD 35 M in Bulgaria. They include programs on the private sector, banking supervision, capital market development, securities regulation and pension reform. USAID is among the main donors to the National Association of Municipalities in the Republic of Bulgaria. The organization was created with the assistance of USAID.
