MAJOR BANKS WITH INTEREST IN LEAD AND ZINC PLANT

Several major banks, including the World Bank, expressed interest in providing money for a project for processing of waste to extract lead and zinc in the Lead and Zinc plant in Kurdzhali, Southern Bulgaria. The project will cost about USD 10 M, Economic and Investment Bank official Georgi Prohaskiy told reporters. EIB consulted the privatisation of the Kurdzhali plant. Lead and Zinc plant Executive Director Nikola Nikolov and US Ambassador to Bulgaria Richard Miles signed on October 2 an agreement between the US Trade and Development Agency and the Lead and Zinc Plant for a subsidy of USD 260,000 M dollars for the feasibility study of the plant. Miles also signed an agreement between the US Trade and Development Agency and Union Miniere Pirdop on a USD 141,000 subsidy for a feasibility study of waste management in copper production. On the part of Union Miniere, the document was signed by its Financial Director Tom Beamish.
