IMF Urged Power Engineering Reforms in Bulgaria

Politics | July 21, 2003, Monday // 00:00

Bulgaria should speed up reforms in its power engineering legislation, a report of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) said Monday.

IMF experts also recommended that Bulgaria should expedite privatization deals in its energy sector as well as the two major deals over the country's Telecom (BTC) and Bulgartabac.

The IMF would consider signing a precautionary agreement with Bulgaria as a positive step, the report said. However, in December 2002 the Bulgarian government gave up its aspirations to transform the current agreement with the International Monetary Fund into precautionary one.
