`An expert Council of the Environment Ministry has approved a project for building a new skiing center in the Rhodopes mountains called Perelik,` Atanas Kadjebov, Chief Architect of the district center of Smolyan said. Perelik will be the second skiing center in the Rhodopes Mountain. The first one, Pamporovo, has been very popular with the skiers for many decades. Perelik will be at an altitude between 1,300 and 2,191 m in a location where the snow cover lasts 30 to 45 days, which is longer than in Pamporovo. It will serve as something of a link for the tourist facilities in the city of Smolyan, Pamporovo and the Raikovski livadi location, and the high snow zone of what is called the Perelik section of the Rhodopes. The new skiing center will have 22 ski runs with a total length of 22 km and capacity of 8,167 skiers/hour. It will also have 3 cable cars, 4 chair lifts and 5 ski tows. It will have 5 self-contained hubs, which will be built by stages reducing the risk to environment.
