DOGAN THREATENS WITH EARLY ELECTION

Politics | October 3, 2001, Wednesday // 00:00

Early elections are ahead of us, the leader of Turkish minority dominated Movement for Rights and Freedom Ahmed Dogan told Premier Simeon Saxe-Coburg immediately after he heard of his decision to back up Peter Stoyanov`s nomination. Ahmed Dogan and the Premier had a nearly one hour conversation in the Council of Ministers office building. After the meeting Dogan escaped journalists and came out of the back entrance. `I`m also embarassed` - were the premier`s only words in reply to Dogan`s warning, MPs from the MRF said yesterday. They indignantly commented on the decision of Saxe-Coburg. Dogan`s people claim that things being as they are, they won`t participate in the presidential vote with the NMS. In their view, any support for Peter Stoyanov would be tantamount to suicide. According to some MPs of the MRF, the coalition agreement between the MRF and NMS does not bind the two formations to jointly nominate a presidential couple. The agreement settles only the participation of the NMS and NMS in the executive power. Sources from the MRF HQ claim that they are getting ready to nominate a couple for the presidential election jointly with the BSP.
