Benghazi Court "Won't Let Bulgarian Medics Out on Bail"

Politics | July 9, 2003, Wednesday // 00:00

It is "almost impossible" that Libyan court would let Bulgarian medics out on bail, Osman Bizanti, the Libyan defense lawyer of the medics said Wednesday.

The Benghazi court proceeded with the Bulgarian medics case on July 8 and did not respect the claim for releasing the Bulgarian medics on bail until the end of the trial.

The legal paragraph applied to charge the medics is very strict, Bizanti explained. Bulgaria's medical workers were accused of deliberately infecting hundreds of Libyan children with HIV.

The next hearing in the trial against the six Bulgarian medics in Libya, accused of intentionally infecting Libyan children with HIV, was set for August 4th.
