SOFIA AIRPORT OPENS CONSTRUCTION TENDERS

Business | October 2, 2001, Tuesday // 00:00

The Sofia airport will open tenders for the construction of a new runaway and a passenger terminal in the end of October. That became clear after the Supreme Administrative Court overruled the complaints of owners of land in the region against the enlargement of the airport. The trails launched by the land owners were the obstacle to initiate the tenders. The runaway to be constructed will be 3,500 m long. Construction costs will be EUR 64 M. EUR 40 M of this sum is to be extended by the Kuwaiti Fund for Arab Economic Development. The new passenger terminal will cost EUR 145 M. The European Investment bank will cover EUR 60 M of the sum. The rest is provided by the state budget and the funded by the European Union ISPA program.
