The new focus of Bulgaria's Cabinet and parliamentary majority will be the social issues. This forecast comes from the freshly elected floor leader of the ruling Simeon II National Movement Stanimir Ilchev. According to him, Tuesday's floor group reconstruction and the oncoming governmental reshuffle aims at policy change that will meet the expectations of the Bulgarian society.
He pledged that the new session of the Parliament due after August's recess would start with a legislative program that concentrates on Bulgaria's hot issues.
He also pointed out that the lawmakers should put ahead with additional efforts to complete the privatization. In Ilchev's opinion, the bank consolidation also requires supervision.
The new floor leader stressed that incumbents and opposition are likely to remain at odds with the rightist opposition party crusading for early elections. However, Ilchev stressed that his party would retain power as long as it stuck to its pre-election promises.
He pointed out that the replacements in the incumbent floor group's leadership are part of the healing process within his party. On Tuesday, he was elected to replace former floor leader Plamen Panayotov who is expected to get a ministerial post. Three new deputy floor leaders were also appointed after a harsh speech of Prime Minister Simeon Saxe-Coburg on Sunday that heralded reshuffles.
In another development, a government spokesman announced that the Council of Ministers would organise a special event to mark the second anniversary since start of its tenure. It is expected to take place between 20 and 23.
The ministers should prepare an overview of their work according to spokesman Dimitur Tsonev. It is not yet clear whether the prime minister will deliver an address but an critical analysis dealing with the expected Cabinet reshuffle might be published by Saxe-Coburg till the end of this week.
