Bulgaria ranks third as a summer charter destination in Denmark, outstripped only by Greece and Spain, a ranking published in popular Denmark's Daily Berlingske Tidende shows.

The number of charter tourists to travel to Bulgaria over the next several weeks has been projected to double over the same period last year.

Danish tour operator Star Tour sets the number of charter tourists to Greece this summer at 48 000. 45 000 will head for Spain and 20 000 will opt for Bulgaria. Turkey lags behind Bulgaria and ranks fourth with 16000 tourists. Star Tour comments that this is a consequence of the war in Iraq.

Italy ranks fifth among tourist destinations with 8000 Danes planning to spend their summer holiday there.
