Bulgaria should maintain the positive social trends it has achieved over the last months. This is what EU Commissioner for Employment and Social Affairs Anna Diamantopoulou said following a meeting with Bulgaria's President Georgi Parvanov. The two discussed social aspects of Bulgaria's Euro-integration.
Both Diamantopoulou and Parvanov agreed that Bulgaria should solve the problems of the gypsy minority in the country. It would also pay more attention to victims of domestic violence, childcare and the tensions on the labor market.
President Parvanov highlighted the current low levels of unemployment in Bulgaria as well as the government's efforts to cut further the jobless rates.
Earlier on Tuesday, Diamantopoulou met Bulgaria's Social Minister Lidiya Shuleva.
EU Commissioner for Employment and Social Affairs Anna Diamantopoulou arrived June 23 on a working visit to Bulgaria. This is her second trip to the country.
