Bulgaria's Burgas Port CEO Resigns 3 Months after Assault

Politics | June 23, 2003, Monday // 00:00

Borislav Botev, one of the incumbent executive directors of the Black Sea port of Burgas, who was assaulted and beaten up three months earlier, handed in his resignation Monday.

In the motives for this move, Botev cited disagreements with the managing team over some of his decisions, as well as the inability of the state to protect his life.

Botev was attacked by unidentified assaulters and beaten with truncheons while returning home in the Burgas district of Lazur March 13.

Police said that the attack could be related to busting smuggling channels through the port of Burgas.

The Board of Directors meets next week to decide whether to accept Botev's resignation. Botev has been Executive Director of Burgas port since 2001.
