Bulgaria Lags Behind Capital's Profits

Profits of Bulgarian companies based in capital Sofia largely exceed those of the Northwester region's companies, survey of the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry shows.

Government's efforts to stimulate economy in the least developed Northwestern region proved unsuccessful, data shows. Trade-and-industry gap between Sofia and the other regions tends to increase.

Bulgaria's GDP in 2001 stood at some USD 13.6 B and companies based at the Sofia region produced almost half of this amount- some USD 5 B.
