China to Lift Ban on Foreign Travel Agencies

China will lift the longstanding ban on foreign-owned travel agencies early to help its tourism recover after the outbreak of SARS. The opening up of China's tourism business was originally expected to come into effect at the beginning of 2007. But the law is now expected to be changed by end-July in order to ensure a swift recovery. However, foreign investors will only be permitted to own one travel agency in the country.
