10% INCREASE IN ELECTRICITY AND HEATING PRICE
Politics | September 27, 2001, Thursday // 00:00
The electricity and heating prices for public services will go up with 20% from October 1, the government decided. The daily tariff of the electricity increases from BGN 0,089 per KW to BGN 0,098 per KW. The night tariff goes up from BGN 0,049 per KW to BGN 0,053 per KW. The electricity price increased from BGN 36,41 to BGN 40,051. `Since the increase is only for the population and not for the industry sector, I do not expect inflationary pressure,` Deputy Prime Minister and Economy Minister said. The reasons for the measure are the artificial pegging of the electricity and heating prices on behalf of the previous government and the increase of the fuel prices. These two factors resulted in a 15% accumulated inflation. `The Social Ministry has prepared a project to assist the population,` Tsvetelina Uzunova, Cabinet`s Press Center Director, said. The project was coordinated with the State Agency for Energetics and Energy Resources. The details on the project are to be announced next week.
