Unique gourd-shaped cup made of gold is among the exhibits at Bulgaria's National Museum of History.
The golden "gourd" was a wedding present from the then Bulgarian Prime Minister Stefan Stambolov to Bulgarian Prince Ferdinand I in 1893. The two top statesmen were fierce political rivals, although Stambolov had great impact upon the prince's official decisions.
Still Stambolov himself bought two golden cups of 325 g each and granted them to Ferdinand at the glorious wedding celebration, Florence 1893.
Bulgarian businessman Emil Hursev won the bid for one of the items at a Christie's auction 2002 in London. Hursev sent the cup to Bulgaria's National Museum of History in early 2003. I am looking forward to buy the other "golden gourd" when it comes out, Hursev told the museum's management.
