Bulgarian Medics in Libya Send Letter Demanding Speeded Up Trial

Politics | May 30, 2003, Friday // 00:00

The six Bulgarian medics, defendants in Libya's HIV case, sent a letter to the Foreign Ministry in Sofia to insist on speeded up trial.

The medics demand Bulgaria's government not to accept possible verdict that does not acquit them. The defendants and their relatives want the Cabinet to declare they are innocent and back them during the trial.

On Friday, an interdepartmental commission on the medics' case began discussions. The commission is said to consider the letter as well.

The Bulgarian medics have been detained for four years already on charges of deliberately infecting some four hundred Libyan children with HIV.
