UK Prime Minister Tony Blair will try to deliver a boost to Poland's efforts to join the European Union on Friday as he visits the country. Poland, the biggest of the 10 nations due to join the EU next year, is holding a referendum on the issue on 7 June. Blair will make a speech in Warsaw in which he will also try to reach people back in the UK, setting out his vision of Britain's place in the EU and of the organisation's place in the world. Fresh from meeting British troops in Iraq, the prime minister will share his impressions of the country with Polish leader Leszek Miller. Poland supported the US-led war against Saddam Hussein's regime and, like the UK, has a commitment to send troops there on peacekeeping duties.
