Politics | September 26, 2001, Wednesday // 00:00

The Bulgarian Foreign Ministry sent a note to the American Embassy in Bulgaria. The note confirmed that Bulgaria grants access to its air space to the United States and NATO. `The note is based on the recommendation of the Consultative Council on National Security from September 25 and the Anti Terrorism declaration, adopted by the Parliament,` Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Elena Poptodorova said. The airplanes that will be granted access to the Bulgarian air space are transporting ones or helicopters. Poptodorova qualified the decision of the government to grant air corridor as `a political act that shows Bulgaria`s solidarity.` She stressed that the act is non-military. `If there are further demands, connected with military actions, the Bulgarian Parliament will discuss them,` Poptodorova clarified. According to the Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman, the Bulgarian airports should be ready for possible landing of NATO or US aircraft.
