An office of the information center "Bulgaria and Iraq" is expected to open in Baghdad no later than July. The center will be run under a Bulgarian humanitarian aid project for war-torn Iraq. Besides the traditional aid forms, the project creates opportunities for Iraqi children and adults who suffered injuries to get treatment in Bulgarian hospitals and sanatoria. It also might dispatch Bulgarian specialists to help rehabilitate Iraqi cultural heritage.

One of the Bulgarian initiatives aims at assisting the preparation of the Iraqi Olympic team. The activists of the project said they might get backed by the Sports Ministry in Sofia.

The participation of Iraqi athletes in the 2003 Olympic Games in Athens will be the first public appearance of new Iraq. Bulgaria that neighbors Greece might help with trainers and bases, aid workers from Bulgaria's Committee for Democracy in Iraq suggested.

The project "System for Management of Bulgaria's Participation in the Humanitarian Action for Rebuilding Iraq" will be discussed at a special round table in Sofia.
