Kishishev Leaves Bulgarian National Football Team

Sports | May 21, 2003, Wednesday // 00:00

Bulgarian defender Kishishev said he quits the national football team and will miss the European Championship qualifier match against Belgium on June 7.

A victory for Bulgaria over Belgium at the National Stadium Vassil Levski would guarantee the country a visa for the European Championship in Portugal.

Kishishev admitted that one of the reasons for leaving the team is missing out on the captaincy to Celtic's Stilian Petrov.

"I was planning to quit after the Belgium game but thought it would be difficult for me to play," said Kishishev. "I think that eight years in the national team are enough."

Talking to Sofia-based Darik Radio he said he would prefer to take care of my health.
