Greece should import Bulgarian brides to come to grips the its demographic imbalance, a Greek television proposed. Official statistical data in Bulgaria's southern neighbor show that there are only 66 unmarried Greek women per every 100 single men.
Young males in Greek have a better chance to find a bride in big cities as the disproportion there is not so severe. But those who live in smaller settlements or rural areas face a real challenge.
This is why one of the most influential TV channels in Greece - the private owned Mega - aired an extensive broadcast about the want of brides. Mega interviewed people from the worst hit regions to find out that almost all favor bride imports. They suggested that Greek men can easily discover a good spouse in Bulgaria and even demanded a bilateral governmental agreement to regulate the issue.
