Q: How can you explain the success that Spanish cinema enjoys now?

A: I think that there has been a gradual and natural change in the generations, which provides a good basis for successful contact between the film director and the viewers. There are many new movie directors that make quality cinema now. The movies currently produced in Spain are very different. For example Meden's movies have nothing in common with Leon's movies and I think this is great.

Q: What is the most important thing when you work on a documentary?

A: I have dedicated my work to a genre that needs getting acquainted with the stories you are going to tell. I always visit the places and meet with the people so that I can understand them and their problems. In this way I present them better and get deeper impact on the viewers.

Q: What is the difference between the American and European cinema?

A: That is a very complicated question. In the US there is also an independent cinema that deals with problems similar to the ones explored by the European cinema. Still US productions get much easier to the cinemas than the European.

Q: Would you like to take part in a production with Bulgarian documentary directors on some problems concerning both countries?

A: Sure! I think that the initiative of presenting Spain's cinema to Bulgaria is a wonderful opportunity to do that. More Spanish and Bulgarian movie directors should be invited to such occasions, which would lead to many ideas for co-productions.

Q: What are your impressions from Bulgaria?

A: I love Sofia. We visited the Rila Monastery, which really impressed me. What astonished me was the fact that people were having walks around the city. Your country has a special character that enchanted me and may bring me to Bulgaria again.
