`At the end of 2002 the latest Bulgaria and Yugoslavia will sign a free trade agreement,` Yugoslav Ambassador to Bulgaria Cedomir Radojkovic said during a visit in Vidin. Joint regional projects between Bulgaria and Macedonia should be developed. Such projects have already been set up by the border regions of Belogradchik in Bulgaria and Knjazevac in Yugoslavia. The future of the border regions is for creating Euro-regions such as the one called Danube 21st Century including parts of Vidin in Bulgaria, Zajcarin Serbia and Calafati in Romania. This project is to be supported from the governments of neighboring countries and various European structures. `A priority at this stage is the construction and modernization of the checkpoints at Dimitrovgrad and later at the village of Salash near Belogradchik,` the Yugoslav Ambassador also said. `Unfortunately, the trade between Bulgaria and Yugoslavia dropped dramatically this year as a result of the big drop of fuel exports to Yugoslavia, ` ambassador Radojkovic also said. That is why free trade areas should be opened and the customs regulations for a number of goods should be relaxed.
