Bulgarian Boy Visits Infectious Hospital after Beijing Stay

A four-year Bulgarian boy has visited the hospital for infectious diseases in Sofia a day after he returned from a visit to Beijing.

The mother told doctor Bogdana Damyanova from the Sofia hospital that the child came back to Bulgaria from China together with his grandfather, who worked there.

The condition of the boy was good, he had no fever but was with a cough.

The boy has been sent to the infectious hospital as advised by his General Practitioner. While still in China, the boy fall ill with pneumonia but the dicease has not been documented.

Doctors recommended that the boy remain in the infectious hospital over SARS scare but the mother refused, citing as an argument the poor conditions in the hospital.

Later in the day doctors from the infectious hospital said that the boy's symptoms do not correspond to the WHO criteria for acknowledged SARS cases.
