Arbitration Institute Settles Labour Disputes in Bulgaria

Business | April 29, 2003, Tuesday // 00:00

Bulgarian employers and workers can take their labour disputes to the National Institute for Conciliation and Arbitration (NICA) from April 29. NICA will settle only collective labour disputes for no more than a month.

Each labour dispute brought to NICA will be handed over to a mediator that will have 14 days to settle the conflict. If no progress is achieved the case is sent to an arbitrator.

The conflicted sides and the mediator will fix the compensation between themselves but it could not be less than BGN 100 per day. There are 36 mediators in NICA, for the judgment to be unbiased both sides can chose a mediator/arbitrator.
