Bulgarian journalists were awarded on Thursday by British media experts and the UK embassy in Sofia for their investigations.

Krassimir Dobrev and Maria Shalaverova swept the first prices at the Best Journalistic Investigation 2002 contest, organized by Investigating Journalists Association, the British Center for Media Development and The Guardian Foundation together with the British embassy in Sofia.

The twenty-seven contesting articles were divided into 2 categories: " National media" and "Regional media". Thirteen of them reached the final stage.

The criteria for evaluation were public importance of the project, evidence value and argumentation.

The first price for " National media" category, won by Krassimir Dobrev, is a two-week practice at "Guardian" newspaper. "Regional media" category' first price, a two-week practice at " Manchester Evening News", was awarded to Maria Shalaverova.
