COOPERATIVE KEY 2001 ENDED

Cooperative Key 2001, the biggest NATO air force exercise in Europe this year, ended with an official ceremony on September 21. Cooperative Key 2001 started on September 11. Over 1,300 troops with over 70 aircraft and other equipment represented in the exercise 11 NATO member states and 14 Partnership for Peace countries. The participants practiced peace-keeping and humanitarian operations. Bulgarian Chief of General Staff Gen. Miho Mihov said in a speech on the last day of the exercise that there is high degree of compatibility between the Bulgarian and the NATO air force. `The only dark shadow cast during the exercise were the tragic events in the United States but they make us even more determined to fight the plague of terrorism,` General Mihov said. The co-commander of the exercise, General Francisco de la Vega, thanked for the perfect conditions and facilities provided by Bulgaria. `This helped the military formations of 25 countries to feel members of a real team with a common mission, `he said.
