`The mission of today`s politicians is to turn Bulgaria into a strong country similar to its European sister-states, and to inspire pride among its residents. This mission was given to us by our ancestors who fought for the idea of Bulgaria`s independence,` President Petur Stoyanov said in his speech at the celebrations of the 93rd anniversary of the declaration of Bulgaria`s independence at the Tsarevets fortress in Veliko Turnovo in the eve of September 22. Earlier during the day Stoyanov attended a fund-raising event at the Tsarevets hill organized by the European Information Centre and the municipality of Veliko Turnovo. The money will be used to reconstruct the 40 Holy Martyrs Medieval Church and to set up Open Door Centre where women and children violence victims will be offered specialized help.
