Bulgaria's Parliament Vows Support for Democracy in Post-war Iraq

Parliament vowed support for affirming the values of democratic society in post-war Iraq.

165 lawmakers voted for position on the Iraqi crisis, proposed by Simeon II National Movement (SII NM), United Democratic Forces and Movement for Rights and Freedoms. Coalition for Bulgaria boycotted the voting, claiming they were the first to table a proposal for the discussion.

Parliament recommended that the Cabinet assist all Bulgarian institutions or organizations, which have declared interest in rebuilding Iraq. With the document lawmakers voice their satisfaction with the fall of Sadaam Hussein's regime and regrets over the lives that the war claimed.

Bulgarian Parliament declared support for maintaining the totality of Iraq and welcomed the efforts of United Nations and all non-governmental organizations to supply humanitarian aid to the Iraqi people.
