Kurds Take Control of Mosul

US-backed Kurdish fighters have taken control of the main northern Iraqi city of Mosul without a fight, witnesses say, cited by BBC.

Looting has gone rampant in Iraq's third largest city. BBC also reported of television pictures showing people looting cash from a bank in the centre of Mosul.

Southeast of Mosul at Kirkuk, the other major population center in northern Iraq's Kurdish areas, Iraqi defenses have evaporated since U.S. special forces seized the city Thursday.
