Bulgaria: UN Role in Post-war Iraq Not Subject to Coalition

Politics | April 11, 2003, Friday // 00:00

The role of the United Nations in post-war Iraq will not be subject to the forces of the coalition, Stefan Tafrov, Bulgaria's Ambassador to the UN Security Council, told "This Morning" broadcast of private national TV channel bTV. He expressed agreement with the opinion of foreign minister Solomon Passy that the organization role will be important, an opinion enjoying a wide support.

Tafrov expressed doubts as to whether one resolution could be the key to solving the crisis. He said it was likely that several resolutions are adopted, dealing with different aspects of the situation in Iraq.

United Nations insists to work on the humanitarian situation in Iraq and the country's revival before convoking an international tribunal against the crimes in Iraq.
