Kovatchevitsa is a village, situated in the far western part of the Rhodopi Mountains.

Kovachevitsa is known with its preserved original houses from the 18th-19th century and for that reason it has been declared an architectural reserve. The story of the village is an additional factor for the unique atmosphere there - the village dates back to the end of 17th century. Legend has it that after the fall from power of the 3th Bulgarian kingdom many refugees fled to the west in the Rhodopi mountain. The main materials for the houses construction are stones and wood. In the village there are 120 houses now, some of them are property of foreigners. The population in the village is 50 persons.

The village has a unique canalization as well, that is put into operation before this of London, according the testimonial of one English journalist. Today Kovachevitza became the Bulgarian Holywood -the Bulgarian movies "Mera spored mera", "Biala magia", "Vreme razdelno" have been shot here.

There are numerous possibilities for walks and visits:

· "Sini vir" waterfall or the region of Kayalijski skali - interesting rock formations (on foot - 2,5 hours);
· The old Roman road above the village of Kovachevitsa;
· One hour walk to the nearby Osikovo village;
