The town is situated in the northern slopes of Chiprovtsi Mountain of the Western Balkan Range, 35 km west of Montana. It is famous with its hand-woven carpets and rugs. These have a rim and a central design composition, the floral ornaments are characteristic.
6 km north-east of Chiprovtsi one can find the Chiprovtsi Monastery of St. Ivan of Rila with a church built in 1829 with a woodcarved altar and a bell-tower.
