Bulgaria may not send troops to a neighboring to Iraq country, it emerged on Wednesday.

General Nikola Kolev, Chief of the General Staff of the Bulgarian Armed Forces, did not rule out this option after a meeting with Bulgarian President Parvanov.

Bulgaria hasn't agreed with the United States what the statute of the Bulgarian unit will be yet.

On February 7, Bulgaria's Parliament decided to assist the US-led military operation in Iraq by dispatching 150-strong unit to one of Iraq's neighboring countries. This week, the troops on the unit were reduced to some one hundred.

The unit is based in Musachevo near the town of Elin Pelin, some twenty kilometres to the east of Sofia. It is entirely autonomous with the necessary logistical support. Over 600 tones or over 2,000 c.m. technical equipment will be sent with the troops. All equipment is made in Bulgaria.
