Russia Has Conducted Part of Subversive Mission Against Ukraine in Bulgaria
Russian secret services may have conducted secret operations trying to deter the possibility of conducting a military campaign against pro-Russian separatists in Donbass covered the Czech Republic and Bulgaria in 2014-2015. It appears to have been led by Russian military intelligence sabotage unit 29155 and included bombings in warehouses in Vrbetice in the Czech Republic in October 2014, the assassination attempt on businessman Emilian Gebrev and at least one of the bombings in military depots in Bulgaria between 2014 and mid-2015.
These are claims in joint investigation of the group “Bellingcat” together with the Russian edition of The Insider, the German magazine Der Spiegel and the Czech Respekt. It shows facsimiles of correspondence between EMCO and a Czech contractor regarding the armament of the Bulgarian company in the warehouse, which later exploded.
A new statement about Gebrev’s poisoning also appears in the publication – that it is possible that another Russian took part in it, traveled with a diplomatic passport from Greece and delivered the poison to Bulgaria. This is Colonel Alexei Kapinos, who is suspected of being involved in the bombings in the Czech Republic. On April 25, 2015, he arrived by plane in Thessaloniki – 3 hours from Sofia – while three of his colleagues were already in Bulgaria.
Bulgarian border authorities do not register the passage of people with diplomatic passports, Bellingkat writes, but according to Russians, Kapinos had reverse pollen on April 28, the day of the poisoning of three Bulgarian citizens, including Gebrev. The Russian colonel did not take off from Thessaloniki with the purchased ticket, but surprisingly appeared the same evening at the airport in Helsinki, from where he returned with an Aeroflot flight to Moscow. The investigation did not establish his whereabouts between the two dates.
