Bulgarian Doctor: A New COVID Wave is Certainly Beginning
The rate of increase in new cases on a weekly basis is 50% from last week, and on a two-week basis it is 140% from two weeks ago
Currently, the data on the spread of coronavirus are similar to those after the second peak in our country and we could use this to predict how things will develop further. This should be communicated to the people as clear criteria and the basis by which the authorities do one thing or another.
This was commented on Bnt by Alexander Simidchiev, an MP from "Democratic Bulgaria" and chairman of the parliamentary health committee. According to him, it is necessary to implement a legislative initiative that would allow when declaring an epidemic emergency, to introduce a specific plan with specific criteria that include or exclude certain restrictive measures.
"It is necessary to make a legislative proposal for a bill, which envisages the introduction of a specific plan when declaring an emergency epidemic, which should contain clear, specific and measurable criteria, which include or exclude certain measures," Simidchiev explained.
According to him, when people know the exact criteria under which certain measures will be triggered, they themselves would contribute to their behavior.
Asked whether a new vaccination plan is needed, Simidchiev said there is a need for clear criteria on the basis of which the various phases of this plan begin.
"I'm not sure there is a need for a new vaccination plan. Lot of things like the motives, the algorithm, the thresholds below or above which something is happening, were not well enough explained.” Simidchiev said.
"We now have a reduction in numbers, but how lasting and sustainable it will be is difficult to predict. We have many different actions that are not well coordinated," he added.
The work of the National Covid Headquarters should not be stopped until there is a new one to take over its function. It is not so important which people are in the headquarters, it is important what rules they work by, the doctor thinks.
Alexander Simidchiev added that healthcare needs to be optimized and that more attention should be paid to disease prevention. According to him, at the moment the health system is working following the action, after what is happening.
"If we work more on prevention, the money will be better spent and reach more people than it is currently happening," said the doctor.
