Weather In Bulgaria On April 19: A Mix of Rain and Wind
Overnight, rainfall across the country will temporarily cease, with some areas experiencing breaks in the clouds
The extension of the third line of the Sofia underground was officially put into operation on Saturday.
The 4 km long line, which connects Sofia's Ovcha Kupel and Gorna Banya districts with the center, was officially opened at a ceremony at the Mizia / New Bulgarian University metro station. It was attended by the resigned Minister of Transport, the Mayor of Sofia, the Chairman of the Sofia Municipal Council, the Executive Director of Metropolitan EAD, mangers from Siemens and others.
Like the first section of metro line 3, launched in the middle of last year, the extension will be serviced by Inspiro locomotives, delivered by Siemens.
The extension to Gorna Banya was released after some delay. When the third metro line was launched last summer, the other four stations - from Krasno Selo to the Gorna Banya Ring Road - were expected to be operational after the New Year.
Eventually, it was confirmed earlier in March that they would be operational in April. The extension includes 4 underground metro stations.
At metro station 18 in the Gorna Banya district, a pedestrian connection tunnel has been built with the railway line Pernik-Sofia. As a result, upon arrival in the capital, travelers from Pernik will be able to reach the center in 12 minutes.
