Bulgaria: President Radev: MPs in Parliament Are Working Hard, Let’s Give Them Some Time facebook

President Rumen Radev did not specify when he intends to give the mandate to form a government to Slavi Trifonov's party "There is such a people". Yesterday, GERB returned the mandate, as they did not receive support from any of the other parties in the National Assembly.

In live video broadcast from Plana Planina President Rumen Radev announced that in the coming days he would announce when he would take the next step in accordance with the Constitution.

Today Radev was in Plana Planina in connection with the presidential initiative "Let's plant a tree, revive the Bulgarian forest".

"There is no set deadline between the first and second assignment of the mandates. Parliament has worked hard, important bills are being considered. We must give the National Assembly a chance to do useful work, for which there are already serious requests. There are many valuable proposals besides the Electoral Code. I hope to have time to be accepted, " Radev said.

As in the first procedure with GERB-UDF mandate, today the President insisted on forming a cabinet within the current parliament. According to him, the parties have begun to find the right tone in their talks.

He expressed the expectation that "the parties and the current government will find the strength and take responsibility for updating the budget."

"It would be utterly irresponsible for millions of pensioners and businesses to be left without support because there is nothing envisaged in the state budget. The parties must find a consensus on behalf of a government that will work in the public interest. Of course, this is tied to serious parliamentary support." said Radev.

He refused to talk about setting up a caretaker cabinet, as a parliamentary procedure is currently underway to set up a regular government. He stressed several times that it is important for the parties to have a dialogue with each other, because only in this way can they clear up the differences and lead to the formation of a government.

Radev added that he has not yet thought about to which party he will give the third term if "There is such a people" fails to gather support for a cabinet.

"GERB Government failed in the spy scandal"

Rumen Radev also spoke on the topic of spy scandals related to Russian diplomats, in several countries in Europe, including Bulgaria. According to him, "the Bulgarian government must realize its responsibility, as we have a deep breakthrough in personal security."

As a result of the scandal, Bulgaria expelled several Russian diplomats, followed by a reciprocal measure by Russia. The prosecutor's office is investigating the case.

"Five high-level officials are involved in these scandals. There is a responsibility that lies with the security services and state officials that report directly to the Council of Ministers and personally to the Prime Minister. They are authorized to give access to classified information. An answer must be found as to why all this has happened and whose responsibility it is. This is work that we have to do with the next government, because GERB government has failed to ensure the security of classified information," Radev said.

Earlier in the day, outgoing Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva criticized the president accusing him of not speaking out about any of the international scandals involving Russia.
