Bulgaria's Fading Appeal to Investors: IT Sector Grapples with Challenges
The IT industry in Bulgaria is set to end 2024 without any growth in employment numbers and with decreasing revenue growth
"We will approach our proposal to form a government responsibly. The Bulgarian electorate definitely put GERB first and all attempts by the runners-up to pose as winners or most significant ones have nothing to do with reality," stated Prime Minister Boyko Borissov at the last regular sitting of his third cabinet prior to his resignation due to submitted to the new parliament, which is convened by the President on April 15.
"And those who say we would be afraid of a caretaker government when they ask you, you should say that that they are afraid for democracy. Because the role of a caretaker cabinet is to hold fair elections", said the leader of GERB.
He pointed out that the elections were transparent and well organised.
"This is the opinion of the international OSCE observers. But the fears they were trying to incite that we would distort the vote results or do something illegal and unacceptable were once again a big lie. That is why we move on and let everyone show the same responsibility", added Borisov.
He stressed that as required by the Constitution, when GERB receives the mandate to form a cabinet as the first political force, they will treat it most responsibly - "not for anything else, but because that's what our voters want." In his words, once the other parties decide whether they will support GERB or not, there are constitutional ways to deal with the situation. However, it has already been stated by all other political forces that they will not support Borisov's government, so Slavi Trifonov's party "There is Such a People" is expected to be handed the second mandate.
"The pandemic situation remains severe in the whole world and we act sensibly, imagine being locked up, having a curfew. In the last 24 hours, those recovering from the coronavirus are more than newly infected. In other countries, there are increasingly more infected, although restrictive measures are much tougher. In the next two months, we expect the additional 2,7 million Pfizer vaccines that we will receive thanks to European solidarity", the Prime Minister stressed.
Consultations between the President and representatives of the parliamentary group "There is Such a People" (TISP) continued as part of the discussions surrounding the formation of a regular government
Dzhevdet Chakarov, the leader of the "Democracy, Rights and Freedoms" (DPS-Dogan faction) party, emphasized the urgent need for a regular government during his consultations with President Rumen Radev.
